Skaur - Skaur (2011)
Skaur is a black metal band from Bodø, Norway. Skaur started in 2003 as a one man band project, with time and a couple of released demos the band got a complete setup of excellent musicians and finally in 2011 their first album was released.
Their first alive concert was January 14th, 2012 and their next upcoming concert is December 21st, 2012 supporting Iskald (for more information check the website - link below)
With other north norwegian bands their sound is described under the "Nordnorsk Svartmetall" subgenre (north norwegian black metal).
The album itself is one of my favourites from the northern norwegian bands, it is a well structured black metal, cold and agressive, including some norwegian traditional elements, the guitar rifts are well defined and the drums, I really like them, very clean and accompaining the music, black metal double drumming to mark a drum solo and the inclusion of acoustic guitars giving an atmosphere of the northern lands.
Agressive vocals full of hatress in the songs, mixing tempo between cold and melancholic slow black metal and rash guitar rifts are present in the entire album making it very attractive for the ones that are into the genre. The songs are length are around 6 to 8 minutes, but the music is so well structured that music just embrace the ambient and flues perfectly.
Om Sorg and Helvete (About grief and hell) is one of my favourites, it has a perfect combination that bring you back to the first generation of black metal with an old heavy thrash touch on its sound.
Midnattsol (midnigth sun) is a complete acoustic song, the clean sound is just a perfect album ending leaving an calm and melancholich feeling after aroun 40 minutes of agressive vocals and rifts
Definitely an awesome and promising band to discover. Personally I am looking forward hear more about Skaur in 2013.
